  Redevelopment Plan

  Masanga Hospital
The economics of the project is split in two parts. The first phase of the project is concerned with getting started, and consequently this part of the budget is about the expenses needed for starting up the project, and an estimate of the expenses for staff, consumer goods and other running costs for the first year.

The second part of the project has been set up after a comparison with the Goderich Surgical Center that is run by the Italian organization Emergency and the information we have obtained from the Aberdeen Clinic and Fistula Center run by Mercyships.

It is important to understand, that the agreement with the MOHS on the running of the hospital is based on the assumption, that we by fundraising over time are able to raise the necessary funds to get the project up to the standards we wish for and have described in this proposal.

We have no guarantees from anyone concerning donations, but a hope and a belief that if we bring out the message in the right way, we will be able to persuade many charities, foundations, businesses, and individuals to contribute their parts in getting this project under way.

The success of the project is therefore dependant on our success in raising these funds, at this may mean, that the development will be slower than anticipated, or that we may have to abandon the project, if it proves impossible to find donors, competent staff etc.

It will be part of the agreement with MOHS that they understand and agree with this. There will consequently be a need for a running evaluation of the project and its finances and an adaptation of the activities according to this.

  Collaborators

SLAA is seeking to have more partners on the project in order to consolidate the financial situation and the implementation of the project.

SLAA consists of individual volunteer. AFOM is supported by lions Club, and the Environment and Energy Centre and the Surgical Clinic are three self-contained and independent units, that each with their competences and energies contribute to the success of this project.

For the implementation of the project we will solicit contributions and financial assistance primarily from private donors through fundraising. It is desirous that also government funds and European aid on the longer term can be included in the completion of the project.

ADRA and SDA both in Denmark and in Sierra Leone have in exemplary fashion been an inspiration for the project, and have been extremely helpful in getting contacts, arranging meetings and with information about Masanga, that have proved invaluable to us.

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION FRIENDS OF MASANGA

The Association Friends of Masanga

The Association Friends of Masanga was founded in August of 2005 with the purpose of supporting the reconstruction of the hospital in Masanga, Sierra Leone.

The founders were surgeon Peter Bo Jørgensen, Poul Schøn of Lions Club, and Knud Anker Iversen of the Environment and Energy Centre.

The Hospital in Masanga is a former leprosy hospital in the small town of Masanga, outside the main city of Makeni in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone.

It was horribly destroyed during the civil war,and forced to close.

The hospital was originally founded by the Seventh-Day-Adventists.
